We start a new initiative: Daily Design Inspirations.
We see great Design everyday around us. In products, services, solutions, architecture, communication, strategy…anywhere. Let us post here our favourites, for inspiration. What we love about them, and why they inspire. And tag as #DailyDesignInspirations…
Here is today’s: the iconic Coca Cola bottle!Instantly recognisable, the Coca-Cola contour bottle is a masterpiece in design that dates back to 1915 when the Coca-Cola Company asked its bottle suppliers Root Glass Company to design a new bottle that would be distinctive and instantly recognisable – “bottle so distinct that you would recognize if by feel in the dark or lying broken on the ground.” . Designer Earl R. Dean took up the challenge, and following instructions issued by his boss, aimed to come up with a design based on the ingredients of the drink. Unable to find any reference images for either the coca leaf, or the Kola nut, Dean instead used an image of a cocoa pod from his encyclopedia as inspiration, leading to the iconic ribbed bottle shape we know and love today!
Here’s more on that history.
Do keep sending your #DailyDesignInspirations, irrespective of what they are. If they moved and inspired you, that is all that matters.
